Video and QuickTimeVR Movies on the Discovery Ride

I used a Canon ZR-50MC MiniDV camera that has proven to be an excellent investment. It uses MiniDV cassettes and a multimedia card for still photos.

I carried 32MB and 8MB MMC cards for a total still picture capacity of about 150 pictures as well as four MiniDV tapes at a time. I also carried the charger, a FireWire cable, and a USB cable.

Tripod construction

Most panoramic tripod heads suitable for work with QuickTimeVR are heavier than I want to carry. They are usually versatile enough to work with many models of camera. This versatility leads to extra mass. I only need to take panoramic pictures with a single camera so I decided to make a custom tripod head for my MiniDV camera. I used a web site I found to give me some ideas as to going about the construction and bought the materials at a local hardware store.
